Eddyville, KY. (March 23, 2022) – Troopers with Kentucky State Police (KSP), Post 1 are investigating a Tuesday evening collision that claimed the lives of two Missouri women. Just before 6:00 p.m. on March 22, 2022, KSP Post 1 received a call of a two-vehicle collision near the 49 mile marker on I-24 in Lyon County. KSP Post 1 troopers and the collision reconstruction team responded to the scene.
Initial investigation shows Amanda McAmis, 35 years old of Wentzville, MO, was operating a 2021 Infiniti QX50 westbound on I-24. McAmis had one adult passenger, Sondra McAmis, 79 years old of Wentzville, MO, and one juvenile passenger in the Infiniti QX50. David Royer, 66 years old of Galena, MO, was operating a 2022 Freightliner truck tractor pulling a 2018 Great Dane semi-trailer eastbound on I-24. McAmis crossed the median, entered the eastbound lanes, and collided with Royer. Amanda McAmis was ejected from the vehicle. Amanda McAmis and Sondra McAmis were both pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lyon County Coroner. The juvenile passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries and later transferred to an out of state hospital for further treatment. Royer did not sustain any injuries. Heavy rain is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Aaron Jestes. Kentucky State Police, Post 1 was assisted on scene by Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County EMS, the Lyon County Coroner, and the State Highway Department.
