City of Benton Police Report May 29, 2017

On 05/28/2017 at around 7:00 pm, Officer S. Robinson, was dispatched to a possible intoxicated driver in the Taco Johns drive thru. Officer Robinson observed the vehicle, as it was leaving the drive thru. The driver made a traffic violation and Officer Robinson made a traffic stop with the vehicle, as it pulled into Fivestar. Officer Robinson spoke with the driver, Jesse Richardson, and noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage, coming from him. As a result of the investigation, Richardson was placed under arrest. Jesse L.Richardson, 30, of Benton, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence (1st Offense), and Operating on a Suspended or Revoked Operators License. After being lodged in the detention center, Richardson punched and damaged a glass window on a door, and was charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

On 05/26/2017, at around 10:15 pm, officer’s received information in reference to reckless driver. Officer N. Spears, located the vehicle in question and stopped it at the court square. As a result of the investigation, driver of the vehicle, Gordon Staab, was found to have a active warrant. Gordon E. Staab,71, of Benton, was charged with a indictment warrant out of Marshall County, for Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Offense, Trafficking in Marijuana 1st Offense, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

On 05/24/2017, Officer N. Spears, was dispatched to a disturbance between neighbors, in the area of East 9th Street and George McClain Drive. Upon arrival, Officer Spears observed Joshua Russell, crossing the road and involved in a verbal altercation, with several others. Russell was cursing and continuing the verbal altercation. Officer Spears advised Russell several times to stop, but he didn’t. Russell was found to be under the influence and was placed under arrest. Joshua A. Russell, 35, of Benton, was charged with Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

They are suspects in a theft investigation, which occurred on 5/24/17 at Wal Mart. The couple left in a early 2000’s model, white, Chevrolet Impala.
