On Thursday June 9th Deputy Steven Oakley observed a vehicle on the Purchase Parkway traveling at a high rate of speed in excess of 106 MPH in the left hand lane. Deputy Oakley activated his emergency equipment before turning around on the vehicle. The vehicle stayed in the left lane until Deputy Oakley couldn’t see it anymore while coming up on a hill trying to catch up. Deputy Oakley caught up with the vehicle and it continued on the Purchase Parkway switching lanes. The vehicle then pulled over and Deputy Oakley made contact with Teresa L. Carter 50, of Hopkinsville, KY that had a noticeably strong odor of alcohol present on her. Deputy Oakley asked Carter if she had been drinking and she advised that she had. Deputy Oakley recovered one empty bottle and one with very little left of liquor inside the console. Carter was arrested and charged with Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment 2nd Degree-Police Officer, Operating Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, Failure to or Improper Signal, Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle, Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Wear Seat Belts, and Speeding 26 MPH or > Speed Limit.
On Wednesday June 8th at approximately 10:00 p.m. Deputy Nathan Maxlow was dispatched to the Purchase Parkway around the 47 mile marker in reference to an accident with injuries. Pamela Ross 17, of Benton, was traveling southbound on the Purchase Parkway and had taken her eyes off the roadway when she ran across the emergency strips and over corrected causing her vehicle to overturn multiple times coming to rest in the median. Ross was transported by Air Evac to Vanderbilt Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
