Sheriff’s Department responds to injury accidents, one results in citations

sheriffOn Wednesday April 20th at 4:57 p.m. Deputy Steven Oakley responded to an accident with injuries on I-24 around mile marker 28. Carl E. Dowell 28, of Paducah, was traveling eastbound on I-24 when he lost control and went off the left shoulder of the road. Dowell then struck a guardrail and over turned. While Dowell was in the ambulance deputies located a metal pipe that contained burnt marijuana located in a plastic bag in his hand. Deputy Oakley and Deputy Luke Rudd recovered a baggy of marijuana, rolling papers and a rolling device and Dowell admitted to that being his. Dowell was cited due to injuries for Operating on a Suspended or Revoked Operators License, License to Be in Possession, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

On Thursday April 21st at 8:56 a.m. Deputy Jason Ivey responded to an accident with injuries on US Hwy 68 at the intersection to US Hwy 641. Amber M. Wallace 36, of Benton, was eastbound on US Hwy 68 approaching the intersection at the same time as Janet C. Watkins 60, of Benton, traveling westbound on US Hwy 68. Wallace was going to make a left turn onto US Hwy 641 and struck Watkins in the right side. Wallace then slid into Roger D. Heltsley 64, of Greenville, KY which was stopped at the stop light to make a left turn on US Hwy 68. Watkins along with a passenger was transported by Marshall County EMS to Marshall County Hospital to be treated for injuries.
