Suspects: Douglas O. Washburn, 40, and Rikirae Washburn, 38, both of Benton, both arrested on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (more than two grams of methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia
A request for a welfare check led to the arrest of a Benton couple on drug charges Thursday night.
Police were called to a restaurant on U.S. 60 (Hinkleville Road) to check the welfare of an individual. Officer Will Gilbert’s investigation led him to a room at a nearby motel, where he found Douglas and Rikirae Washburn.
Gilbert said officers noticed several items consistent with drug activity on one of the beds and Gilbert requested to search the room.
Douglas Washburn consented, and Gilbert found 4.4 grams of methamphetamine, nearly $2,800 in cash and several items of drug paraphernalia.
The couple was arrested on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (more than two grams of methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
