McCracken County deputies may have saved the life of a 90-year-old resident who fell in the snow overnight.

According to McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, residents called to report what sounded like a woman calling out for help somewhere in the distance in the Hendron community.

Deputies responded to the scene, combing the area through the snow. According to MCSO they located an elderly woman in the snow outside her home. The resident, who was not identified, had reportedly fallen while looking for her dog.

Deputies — Jim Wilson and Todd Ray — carried her inside the home and worked to warm her before an ambulance could arrive to take her to a local hospital for treatment.

“These two deputies will go home at the end of their long shift at around 6 this morning knowing that they saved a life this morning,” McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden said in a statement on social media. “And thank you also to the neighbors that took the time to call 911.”

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints throughout the Post 1 district, to check motorists for compliance with motor vehicle laws including driving under the influence statutes. KSP utilizes traffic safety checkpoints to promote safety for motorists using the public roadways and to provide a deterrent for those who violate laws contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes.

The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide for a high visibility, public safety service, focusing on vehicular equipment deficiencies, confirming appropriate registration and insurance of vehicles, and the valid licensing of drivers. Violations of law or other public safety issues that arise shall be addressed.

Traffic safety checkpoints will allow the Kentucky State Police the opportunity to periodically concentrate its efforts in checking for violations of Kentucky traffic and regulatory laws that will ultimately increase the safety of the citizens within the Commonwealth. Drivers encountering a traffic safety checkpoint are requested to have their operator’s license, vehicle registration receipt and proof of insurance readily accessible. Super Bowl 52: Fans don’t let fans drive drunk

$

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 31, 2018) – Football fans across the country will celebrate America’s most-watched sporting event, Super Bowl LII, on Sunday, Feb. 4.

For many, the Super Bowl celebration will include drinking alcohol, so the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) is teaming with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk reminder urging football fans to call the right play by passing the keys to a sober driver.

“Drunken driving-related crashes are 100 percent preventable,” said KOHS Executive Director Dr. Noelle Hunter. “The solution is simple: Plan for a designated driver before the party begins.”

Drunken driving can be deadly. With a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, a driver is considered alcohol-impaired, but even a small amount of alcohol can impair judgment and reaction times enough to make driving unsafe.

According to NHTSA, 10,497 people were killed in crashes that involved an impaired driver in 2016. Of those fatalities, 67 percent were crashes in which at least one driver had a .15 BAC, almost twice the legal limit.

“Driving impaired is never worth the risk,” said Hunter. With so many sober ride options – public
trasnportation, taxis, ride booking programs – there is no excuse.”

In addition, NHTSA’s SaferRide Mobile App is another resource to help fans who have been drinking find a sober ride home by identifying their location and helping to call a taxi or a friend to pick them up. The app is available for Android devices on Google Play and Apple devices on the iTunes store.

“This Super Bowl weekend, be a team player and help keep impaired drivers from getting behind the wheel,” said Hunter. “Remember – Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.”
