KSP Post 1 Honors Fallen Troopers

MAYFIELD, KY – On Wednesday, May 16, 2018, Kentucky State Police Post 1 held memorial services at two locations in Graves County as part of National Police Officer Memorial Week. As part of this day of remembrance, KSP Post 1 Troopers gathered to place a wreath at the memorial outside of KSP Post 1 in Graves County. The memorial contains the names of the two Troopers who died in the line of duty in the Post 1 area.

Trooper Eric K. Chrisman, age 23, was fatally injured on June 23, 2015 in a vehicle collision while en route to a reckless driving complaint on US 62 in Livingston County. Upon receiving his commission as a Trooper, he was assigned to Post 1, Mayfield, where his death came only six months into his career. Trooper Chrisman is buried in Sand Spring Baptist Cemetery in Anderson County. In honor of his service and sacrifice, KY 326 in Anderson County has been designated the “Trooper Eric K. Chrisman Memorial Highway”.

Trooper Joseph ‘Cameron’ Ponder, age31, was fatally shot on September 13, 2015 while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 24 in Lyon County. Upon receiving his commission as a Trooper, he was assigned to Post 1, Mayfield, where his death came only nine months into his career. Trooper Ponder is buried at Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery in Ft. Knox, KY. In honor of his service and sacrifice, Interstate 24 in Lyon County, from the Caldwell County line to its intersection with Kentucky Route 293, is designated as the “Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder Memorial Highway”.

KSP Post 1 Troopers then traveled to Mayfield Memory Gardens to place a wreath at the gravesite of Trooper James W. McNeely.

Trooper James W. McNeely, age 37, drowned April 8, 1972 while on a flood rescue mission in Franklin County. His death came one day after his sixteenth anniversary of joining the Kentucky State Police. Trooper McNeely and KSP Water Patrol Officer David C. Childs died when the boat in which they were riding was swept over the dam at Lock 4 in Frankfort. Trooper McNeely’s body was never found. The two canoeists for whom the officers were searching were later found safe. Trooper McNeely was assigned to Post 12 Frankfort. Trooper McNeely was survived by his wife and three children. His memorial in in Wingo, KY. In honor of his service and sacrifice, a five mile stretch of KY 339 in Graves County has been designated the “Trooper James W. McNeely Memorial Highway”.


Suspect in thefts from vehicles sought

UPDATE- On 05/22/2018, Jeon Quarles turned himself in at the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department as a result of the media and social media coverage. Quarles was interviewed by Detectives and arrested on the outstanding warrant. Additional arrests and charges may be pending.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating 20 year old Jeon Zhyrei Quarles of Paduah. Quarles is wanted in connection to multiple thefts from vehicles.

On May 15, 2018 McCracken County Sheriff’s deputies began fielding multiple reports of items being stolen from vehicles during the previous overnight hours from residents in the Reidland area. Detectives immediately began investigating and were able to identify a vehicle involved in the thefts from surveillance footage captured by residents in the area. With the assistance of Paducah Police Department, the vehicle in question was located along with the occupants identified. Detectives also found that Quarles had sold items matching what was stolen from vehicles to multiple local pawn shops.

Detectives have been unable to locate Quarles and are now asking for the public’s assistance in locating him.

Aside from Quarles being identified as participating in the thefts, two McCracken County juveniles were also identified and charged with TBUT- From Auto O/$500

KSP conducting traffic safety checkpoints

HICKORY, KY. – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints throughout the Post 1 district, to check motorists for compliance with motor vehicle laws including driving under the influence statutes. KSP utilizes traffic safety checkpoints to promote safety for motorists using the public roadways and to provide a deterrent for those who violate laws contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes.

The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide for a high visibility, public safety service, focusing on vehicular equipment deficiencies, confirming appropriate registration and insurance of vehicles, and the valid licensing of drivers. Violations of law or other public safety issues that arise shall be addressed.

Traffic safety checkpoints will allow the Kentucky State Police the opportunity to periodically concentrate its efforts in checking for violations of Kentucky traffic and regulatory laws that will ultimately increase the safety of the citizens within the Commonwealth. Drivers encountering a traffic safety checkpoint are requested to have their operator’s license, vehicle registration receipt and proof of insurance readily accessible. Drivers with this information in hand, those with no violations of law and minimal roadway congestion can reasonably expect to be delayed for no more than 30 seconds to a few minutes.

Listed below are the supervisory- approved traffic safety checkpoint locations in the Kentucky State Police, Post 1 district. This includes the following Kentucky counties: Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Livingston, Lyon, McCracken, Marshall and Trigg. Calloway County Sheriff’s Office and Murray Police Department requesting public’s assistance in locating two missing juveniles

The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office and the Murray Police Department are requesting the public’s assistance in locating two missing juveniles. Both juveniles were last seen at their respective homes on May 26th, 2018 at approximately 1030pm. Both juveniles are believed to be in each other’s company and their last known location was in Tennessee. The juveniles are described as follows:

Jasten M. Murphy, 15 year old white male, 6’1” tall, 120lbs, last seen wearing sweatpants or stone washed jeans and tan leather boots. He has a small scar above one eye and another scar on his left leg.

Christina N. Franklin, 16 year old white female, 5’2”, 120lbs, unknown clothing description. She has a scar on her left forearm, a belly button piercing, and two piercings in her left upper ear.

GOLDEN ALERT for missing Mayfield woman

Mayfield, Ky. – (05/27/18) Officials in Graves County have issued a Golden Alert for Rebecca L Curd, who has been reported missing since 1:30 pm CST May 27th.

Ms. Curd is described as a white female, age 61, 5’2 ft tall, 130 pounds, gray hair and brown eyes. Last seen wearing glasses, a dark blue shirt, blue jeans, tennis shoes and a beaded Indian necklace. Ms. Curd is developmentally delayed and suffers from seizures that require medication.

Ms. Curd was last seen at 1009 Paris Road Mayfield, KY.
Ms. Curd is from Mayfield, KY. and will be entered NCIC by Mayfield Police Department.

Michael Allen Badger, 28, of 1002 Chestnut Oak Road, Kuttawa was arrested on May 15, 2018 on a Lyon County Warrant for theft by unlawful taking under $500.

Timothy Overby, 30, of 210A West Jackson Street, Paducah was arrested on May 16, 2018 on a Hickman County Warrant for non-payment of court costs, fees, or fines. He was also charged with no operators license.

Whitney Marie Barb, 28, of 76 Golden Acres Loop, Apt. #12, Calvert City was arrested on May 16, 2018 on a Hickman County Warrant for non-payment of court costs, fees, or fines.

Michael Allen Patterson, 34, of 946 Woody Hills Drive, Clarksville, TN was arrested on May 20, 2018 for DUI 2nd offense and driving on a DUI suspended license 1st offense.

Nicole Ann Beasley, 45, of 12 Quail Road, Calvert City was arrested on May 20, 2018 on a Marshall County Warrant for failure to appear. She was also served a Kentucky Parole Board Warrant for parole violation.

Christian M. Sherrill, 29, of 1202 Oscar Cross Road, Paducah was arrested on May 20, 2018 for possession of a controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense (methamphetamine). She was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia (x2), promoting contraband 1st degree, and possession of marijuana.

Jonathon Jacob Walker, 25, of 12 Quail Road, Calvert City was arrested on May 20, 2018 for possession of a controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense (methamphetamine). He was also charged with possession of drug
paraphernalia. He was also served a Marshall County Warrant for failure to appear.

Christopher Robinson Tucker, 39, of 15 Camelot Court, Calvert City was arrested on May 21, 2018 on a McCracken County Warrant for failure to appear.

Cody Todd Driver, 30, of 183 Jaco Lane, Benton was arrested on May 25, 2018 for driving on a DUI suspended license 1st offense. He was also charged with failure of owner to maintain required insurance 1st offense
and failure to register transfer of motor vehicle.

Colin Jackson Brasher, 22, of 280 Tyrie Road, Princeton was charged on May 26, 2018 with unlawful transaction with a minor 3rd degree.

Matthew Ray Sholar, 21, of 312 Centennial Drive, Princeton was charged on May 26, 2018 with unlawful transaction with a minor 3rd degree.

Michael A. Pearson, 25, of 1211 Tennessee Street, Paducah was charged on May 26, 2018 with public intoxication – controlled substances (excludes alcohol).

Derek Shane Russell, 36, of 25 Joe Blades Lane, Gilbertsville was arrested on May 28, 2018 for burglary 2nd degree (x2), possession of burglary tools (x2), criminal mischief 2nd degree, theft by unlawful taking under $500, receiving stolen property under $10,000, receiving stolen property under $500, burglary 3rd degree, criminal mischief 3rd
degree, and theft by unlawful taking $500 or more but under $10,000.

Tara Jill Brown, 31, of 25 Joe Blades Lane, Gilbertsville was arrested on May 28, 2018 for receiving stolen property under $500, receiving stolen property under $10,000, burglary 2nd degree, possession of burglary tools, burglary 3rd degree, criminal mischief 3rd degree, and theft by unlawful taking $500 or more but under $10,000. She was also served a Marshall County Warrant for theft by unlawful taking under $500.

Ronald Claud Burnett, 47, of 849 Tiline Road, Smithland was arrested on May 29, 2018 on a Boone County Warrant for failure to appear.

The following people were arrested by the Calvert City Police Department between April 24-29:

Anthony G. Whitfield, 53, of 66 Orchard Lane, Gilbertsville was arrested on April 24, 2018 for alcohol intoxication in a public place. He was also served a Scott County Warrant for failure to appear.

Natasha Amber Cantrell, 18, of Kentucky Dam Motel, No. 6, Calvert City was arrested on April 25, 2018 for theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting under $500.

Zachary Blane Peck, 19, of Kentucky Dam Motel, No. 6, Calvert City was arrested on April 25, 2018 for theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting under $500. He was also charged with operating on a suspended or revoked operators license.

Brian E. McKinney, 29, of 1639 State Route 1271, Kuttawa was arrested on April 26, 2018 for DUI 1st offense. He was also charged with improper passing and resisting arrest.

Ramey Lawson Smith, 40, of 847 Jake Dukes Road, Grand Rivers was arrested on April 27, 2018 for DUI 2nd offense. He was also charged with failure to produce insurance card and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle.

Lindsay Erin Clouse, 26, of 349 Alamo Road, Calvert City was served two Marshall County Criminal Summons for theft by deception – include cold checks under $500 on April 27, 2018.

Phillip C. Williams, 26, of 349 East 3rd Avenue, Calvert City was served a McCracken County Criminal Summons for harassing communications on April 29, 2018.

Theft of Anhydrous Ammonia reported, man on ATV shot and arrest made

Early on the morning of May 31st, Deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Scale Road in reference to a person stealing Anhydrous Ammonia and a shooting. The investigation by Detective Jeff Daniel and later, Detective Captain Matt Hilbrecht revealed that there had been a report of theft of Anhydrous Ammonia on May 30th. The suspect escaped by ATV. On the morning of 5-31, at approximately 0340, an ATV was again heard in the area of the Anhydrous Ammonia tank. A resident took his .38 pistol and walked outside. The suspect stopped at the end of the man’s driveway. The owner fired two shots. The man on the ATV left and traveled a short distance and stopped again. The owner went to the location to check on the ATV rider and discovered that one of the rounds had struck the ATV rider. When responders arrived the man was deceased. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Kelly Raymond Allen of Benton on a charge of Reckless Homicide. The investigation is continuing with the Marshall County Coroner’s Office working on notification and Identification. An autopsy was completed on Thursday afternoon.

Through June 5, 2018, preliminary results show there have been twelve people killed on the roadways in the Post 1 District.

Edwards retires after 30 years of service

Brett Edwards retired June 1st from 30 years of service in the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. Edwards has dedicated his entire life to the community and was one of the first to arrive on scene during the shooting on January 23 at Marshall County High School.

A total of 35 years in service to his community, he spent 15 years at the Paducah Police Department, 15 years with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and five years with E.M.S.

On his last day, Honorable Jack Telley swore in Randol Anderson as a special deputy to ride with Edwards on his final day. Randol is special needs and is well-known in the community as the man who rides his bicycle in Fairdealing. A few years ago, Anderson was praised for returning money that he found on the roadside near Fast Eddie’s.

Edwards family, friends and co-workers admire his dedication and service to the community for the past 35 years.

Edwards daughter Brittany Edwards Spalding said, “As little girls, we’d lay in our beds and listen for the sound of the Velcro on his gun belt so that we knew he was home safe. Today, he gave his final 10-7 and is officially retired. Words can’t express how proud we are to be his daughters. After 30 years in law enforcement, I can’t imagine anyone more deserving of this new adventure.”

James Elmer Hall, 60, of 51 Fowler Road, Kuttawa was arrested on June 06, 2018 on a Knox County Warrant for failure to appear. He was also charged with no registration plates and no registration receipt.

Robbie A. Edmonds, 18, of 1291 Paradise Road, Tiline was charged on June 07, 2018 with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, no registration plates, no registration receipt, failure to produce insurance card, and failure of owner to maintain required insurance 1st offense.

Damian Lawrence Nowicki, 18, of 346 West Main Street, Salem was charged on June 07, 2018 with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Adam L. Larsen, 29, of 22101 Marion Road, Fredonia was arrested on June 08, 2018 for alcohol intoxication in a public place and disorderly conduct2nd degree.

Robert S. Hill Jr., 39, of 12186 First Avenue, Cincinnati, OH was arrested on June 09, 2018 for DUI 1st offense.

Man begging for money indicted for Harassment and Physical Contact

On Wednesday, May 30th, Sergeant William Treadway started an investigation of an altercation that occurred in the parking lot area of Walmart. Randy L. Payne, 66, of Providence Kentucky was captured on video shoving a female who had confronted him about his begging for money on the corner for weeks. As a result of the investigation Jason Darnall from the Marshall County Attorney’s Office presented the case to the Marshall County Grand Jury. On June 12th, Randy Payne was indicted on the charge of Harassment with Physical Contact.

Update: Alex Henderson has been located and is safe.

Water Valley, KY (June 18, 2018) The family of 24 year old James “Alex” Henderson has reported to Kentucky State Police that he has been missing since approximately 11:00 AM today. Alex Henderson was last seen leaving his residence on US Highway 45 S in Water Valley. He left in his 1998 Gray Dodge Durango. It is believed that he may be heading to the Boydsville Road area between the Kentucky state line and Palmersville, TN. Alex is described as a white male, approximately 6’ 2”, 170 lbs., short brown hair, and gray eyes. Kentucky State Police is requesting the assistance of the public in locating this missing person. Anyone who has seen Alex Henderson since 11:00 AM on June 18, 2018 or has any information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact Kentucky State Police Post 1.

The investigation is continuing by Trooper Sarah Burgess. For the week of June 11th through June 18th the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following:
13 Traffic Accidents, 18 Traffic Stops, 120 Extra Patrol Requests, 1 Reckless Driver…, 7 Motorist Assists, 2 Animal Complaints, 1 Assault, 15 Burglary/Theft reports, 9 Disturbances, 3 Domestic Disturbances, 5 EPO’s, 1 Alcohol Intoxication, 8 Investigations, 2 Drug Investigations, 23 Have a Deputy Call, 8 Suspicious People, 7 Suspicious Vehicles, 22 Warrants Served, 21 Civils Served, 6 Welfare Checks, With these calls plus others the total for the week was 395 calls responded to.

For the week of June 11th through June 18th the Marshall County Court Security attended 14 court sessions, moved 35 inmates to and from court, checked 2580 people into the Judicial Building, transported 7 adults out of county and inspected 39 vehicles.

Marshall County Ky Sheriff’s Department Activity Report. On Friday June 15th Deputy Luke Rudd was dispatched to US Hwy 68 W in reference to a residence that had been broken into. While conducting an investigation a bag that did not belong to the homeowner was located in the garage. There was a wallet located in the bag that belonged to a Jesse L. Boster 28, of North Branch, MN. Boster had previously been arrested at a neighbors for causing property damage to a residence and a vehicle. Boster was charged with Burglary 1st Degree and Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree.

On Saturday June 16th Deputy Barry Howell served an indictment warrant on Lolita Carruthers 34, of Eddyville, KY. Carruthers was currently in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On Sunday June 17th Deputy Luke Rudd served a Failure to Appear warrant on Cheryl A. Stark 29, of Hardin. Stark was located in the Marshall County Detention.

On Tuesday June 19th Sgt. Tim Reynolds went to assist Calvert City PD on trying to locate a subject at a residence on Sandstone Street for an active warrant. After entering the residence, the investigation revealed several items of drug paraphernalia, marijuana and methamphetamine. Jeremy D. Meredith 39, of Gilbertsville, was placed under arrest for an active Failure to Appear warrant out of Marshall County. Meredith also obtained new charges of Possession of Marijuana, Possession Controlled Substance (Meth) 1st Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Phillip Clayton Williams, 26, of 349 East 3rd Avenue, Calvert City was arrested on June 14, 2018 for alcohol intoxication in a public place.

James J. Sense, 33, of 32 South Alabama Street, Calvert City was arrested on June 15, 2018 on a Fugitive Warrant from Montgomery County Indiana.

Corey William Clark, 19, of 20 Windsor Drive, Calvert City was arrested on June 16, 2018 on a Marshall County Indictment Warrant for fraudulent firearm transaction (class D felony), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brittany Faith Turnbow, 23, of 2940 Geibe Road, Paducah was arrested on June 16, 2018 on a McCracken County Warrant for failure to appear.

Aaron Adrian, 39, of 1678 US Highway 95, Calvert City was arrested on June 16, 2018 on a Livingston County Warrant for failure to appear.

Jethro Edwin Foley, 50, of 761 Chaney Drive, Grand Rivers was arrested on June 17, 2018 on a Daviess County Warrant for theft by deception – include cold checks under $10,000.

On Tuesday June 19th Deputy Barry Howell received a call in reference to someone passed out in a car on Aurora Hwy. Upon Deputy Howell’s arrival he observed a male sitting in the drivers seat slumped over the steering wheel. The subject was extremely intoxicated and could not perform any Field Sobriety Tests. The subject was taken and admitted to Marshall County Hospital due to being extremely under the influence. Robert E. Dunlap 58, of Puryear, TN, was cited for Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence and Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle.

On Wednesday June 20th Sgt. Tim Reynolds was patrolling the Draffenville area when he observed a male subject with a backpack walking on Hwy 68 E. Sgt. Reynolds made contact with the subject and he could observe something in one of his pockets. Upon investigation a meth pipe with residue and a small bag with residue. Steven C. Russell 38, of Benton, was arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Wednesday June 20th Deputy Steven Oakley responded to Howards Grove Rd in reference to a male subject sleeping in a vehicle that wasn’t his. The caller advised that the male subject still had her keys and had went through the vehicle. Upon arrival, Deputy Oakley observed the male subject standing by the vehicle. Eric R. Yeomans 54, of Calvert City, was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree and Theft By Unlawful Taking U/$500.
