On Sunday 7/15/2018 Sgt. Treadway was dispatched to Eastside Village to check on a person passed out behind the wheel. After investigation, Mr. Paul S. Griffin (Ledbetter, KY) was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense- Meth and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was taken to the Marshall County Jail. Deputies Rudd and Howell assisted on the call.

Lyndsey Draper, 33, of 250 Parks Street, Gilbertsville was arrested on July 11, 2018 on a Marshall County Indictment Warrant for flagrant non-support.

James L. Roedel, 38, of 392 Timmons Lane, Gilbertsville was arrested on July 13, 2018 for violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO. He was also charged with theft by unlawful taking/shoplifting under $500.

Kevin James Eaves, 41, of 453 East 10th Avenue, Calvert City was arrested on July 15, 2018 for driving on a DUI suspended operators license 1st offense.

KSP Post 1 Trooper and Detective of the Year

Hickory, KY (July 16, 2018) – A Kentucky State Trooper and Detective assigned to Post 1, received recognition from Lt.  Gov. Jenean Hampton, Justice Secretary John Tilley and Kentucky State Police Commissioner Richard Sanders, at a ceremony held July 13, 2018.

“You are the embodiment of what law enforcement does,” Hampton told those being recognized. “You stand between us and chaos. You protect those you don’t even know and you do it without asking. God bless you and your families and I pray that your end of watch comes on a day and time of your choosing.”

“Kentucky is blessed to have so many selfless, courageous professionals among the ranks of KSP,” said Secretary Tilley. “These award recipients have shown incredible strength and commitment to the safety of others – often at great personal risk – and we are honored to have them serve our commonwealth.”

KSP Commissioner Rick Sanders echoed the praise and said he is never surprised by the way the agency “answers the call.”

“The bell never rings without our men and women rising to the occasion,” he said. “I thank every member of the Kentucky State Police for their service and I thank their family members for allowing them to keep our commonwealth safe.”

Trooper Eric West, a McCracken County resident, was named the 2017 KSP Post 1 Trooper of the Year.  Trooper West is a 3 year veteran with KSP.  During 2017, Trooper West issued 688 citations, arrested 57 impaired drivers, opened 82 criminal cases, and made 271 criminal arrests. Trooper west is assigned to the Central Squad and works Calloway and Marshall Counties.  Captain White stated in his nomination, “Trooper West always demonstrates a willingness to help other Troopers, Detectives or anyone in the public. He comes to work every day with the most positive attitude and eagerness to make a positive difference.”

Detective Trevor Pervine, a Calloway County resident, was named the 2017 KSP Post 1 Detective of the Year.  Detective Pervine is a 14 year veteran with KSP, with four of those years as Detective.  During 2017, Detective Pervine was the lead investigator in 47 cases, including 28 cases for Trafficking in Controlled Substances, 14 cases for Trafficking in Marijuana, one Manufacturing Methamphetamine case and five other drug related cases. Detective Pervine seized over $10,000 in 2017, which was illegal proceeds from Narcotics related crimes.  He seized over 10 pounds of marijuana, ½ pound of methamphetamine, 100 grams of cocaine, over 500 prescription pills, 20 firearms, and two vehicles.  Captain White stated in his nomination, “Detective Pervine brings his A-game to every shift, every task, every time. He is looked to as an informal leader and respected by many.”

On July 10th, Deputy Barry Howell responded to Patriot Street in Gilbertsville in reference to an Assault complaint. As a result, Lori Jo Blades of Gilbertsville was arrested and charged with Assault 4th Degree.

On July 15th, Deputy Chris Greenfield observed a vehicle with only one headlight on Purchase Parkway. As a result of the stop and ensuing investigation, David Scott Bruner of Mayfield was charged with the following:
Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Ins.
One Headlight
No Registration Plates
No Registration Plate
Improper Registration Plate
Failure to Produce Insurance Card
Display of Illegal / Altered Registration Plates

Further check revealed a warrant for Bruner out of Graves County for Failure to Appear. The warrant was served and Bruner was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On July 15th, Deputy Chris Greenfield served a Failure to Appear Warrant on Taylor W. Smith of Hardin.

On July 13th, Deputy Chris Greenfield served two Failure to Appear Warrants from the Marshall District Court on Jackie Lee Johnson III of Hardin.

On July 14th, Deputies Luke Rudd and Barry Howell responded to Tubbs Road reference to a suspicious vehicle with a male and female inside. Upon arrival, they discovered that the male and female had been in some form of altercation. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of both individuals. Joshua W. Wilson of Hardin was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle on Suspended or Revoked Operators License and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. Further search at the Detention Center resulted in charges of Promoting Contraband 1st Degree and Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense Methamphetamine on Wilson. Taylor A. Dunaway of Calvert City was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense Methamphetamine. Both were lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On July 16th, Deputy Luke Rudd served a Theft By Unlawful Taking warrant from Caldwell County. Joshua A. Mosley of Paducah was served the warrant initiated by Princeton Police.

On July 16th, Sergeant Jason Lane, with the assistance of Kentucky Probation and Parole Officers, served a bond revocation on a Marshall Circuit Court case. The revocation was served on James T. Harrell of Murray. He was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On July 17th at 1:30 am , Sergeant Tim Reynolds was dispatched to Watkins Street in Hardin in reference to a suspicious person. The caller stated that a woman was hiding behind bushes. Just prior to SGT. Reynolds arrival, the woman ran behind a church and hid. SGT. Reynolds was able to find the woman who gave a false name to him. SGT. Reynolds was able to confirm her true identity as Lori Blades of Gilbertsville and arrested her charging her with Giving Officer False Identifying Information.

Benton Police Department needs your help in locating Mitchell Carl McDonald (49 years old) . Mr. McDonald has an active felony warrant. The warrant stemmed from an investigation that started in 2006 by then Officer Treadway. On July 10, 2018 the grand jury returned an indictment charging Mr. McDonald with: Burglary 1st Degree, Assault 4th Degree (Minor Injury), Attempted Rape 1st Degree, Unlawful Imprisionment 1st Degree, Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, and Persistent Felony Offender 1. Mr. McDonald last known location was in Paducah but could be anywhere in the Western Kentucky area. If anyone has information on where Mr. McDonald is, they can message us here, call dispatch at 270-527-1333 if in Marshall County, or their local police/sheriff’s department if outside of Marshall County. (July 18, 2018)  KSP is competing with state law enforcement agencies throughout the U.S in the American Association of State Troopers (AAST) “2019 Best Looking Cruiser Contest.” The winning photo will be featured on the cover and premier January position of the association’s 2019 wall calendar. KSP’s photo features one of its newest Dodge Charger cruisers in front of the state capitol building in Frankfort.

To accomplish this, KSP needs the help of all Kentucky citizens and friends throughout the country. The competition is tough. The 2018 winner collected 25,242 votes.

Kentucky State Police Arrests Calloway Man on Sexual Abuse

Murray, KY (July 19, 2018) The Kentucky State Police arrested Mark A. Johnson, 39 of Murray, and charged him with Sexual Abuse 1st Degree, a Class “D” Felony.  KSP received a complaint on July 18, 2018 of an incident involving a 24 year old female and began their investigation.  The investigation resulted in KSP obtaining an arrest warrant on Mr. Johnson.  Mr. Johnson was arrested without incident and lodged in the Calloway County Jail.

Mr. Johnson is a police officer with the Murray State University Public Safety Department and has been placed on administrative leave, by their policy.

The investigation is continuing by Sergeant Brett Miller. On July 17th, Captain Matt Hilbrecht served an Indictment Warrant on Patricia J. Barnett of Benton. The indictment charges were Falsely Reporting an Incident, Arson 2nd Degree, and Cruelty to Animals 2nd Degree.

On July 17th, Sergeant Jason Lane served a Complaint Warrant from McCracken County on Richard W. Martin of Calvert City for Possession of Marijuana.

On July 17th, Captain Matt Hilbrecht served an indictment warrant on Derek S. Russell of Tiline, KY. The charges were Burglary 2nd Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Theft By Unlawful Taking or Disposition All Others Under $500, Receiving Stolen Property Under $500, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Theft By Unlawful Taking or Disposition All Others $500 or More But Under $10,000, and Burglary 3rd Degree.

On July 17th, Deputy Cory Curtner served a McCracken County Bench Warrant on Richard Martin of Calvert City for Failure to Appear.

On July 18th, Captain Matt Hilbrecht served a complaint warrant from Marshall County charging Sebastian Tyler Driver of Benton with Theft By Unlawful Taking or Disposition Shoplifting U/$500 and Theft By Deception – Including Cold Checks U/$500.

On July 18th, Deputy Cory Curtner served a complaint warrant charging James R. Oliver of Benton with Receiving Stolen Property U$10,000.

On July 18th Deputy Dennis Lewis served a Bench Warrant on Michelle D. Cedar of Benton. Sergeant Tim Reynolds observed her as she handed money to her mother also hand her a bag of marijuana. As a result she was charged by citation to court with Possession of Marijuana.

On July 18th, Sergeant Rick Inman served a Bond Revocation on Marissa Ledbetter of Tiline, KY.

On July 18th Deputy Cory Curtner served an indictment warrant on Michael Spiceland of Symsonia, KY. The charge was for Trafficking in Controlled Substance 2nd Degree 1st Offense – Drug Unspecified Schedule 3

On July 19th, Sergeant Jason Lane served an indictment warrant from the Marshall Circuit Court on James W. Boatright of Benton. The charges were for Operating a Motor Vehicle Under Influence Alc/Drugs/Etc .08 First Offense, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Fail to Notify Owner of Unattended Vehicle of Damage, No Operators License, Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition Auto $500 or More But Less than $10,000.

On July 19th, Sergeant Jason Lane served an indictment warrant from the Marshall Circuit Court on Christopher S. Edging of Benton. Edging was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense Methamphetamine, Drug Paraphernalia Buy / Possess, Possession of Handgun By Convicted Felon, and Defacing a Firearm.

On July 19th, Sergeant Jason Lane served an indictment warrant from Marshall Circuit Court on Logan T. Hodge of Calvert City. The indictment was on charges of Assault 4th Degree, Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon, Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense Methamphetamine, Drug Paraphernalia Buy / Possess, and Promoting Contraband 1st Degree.

On July 20th, Captain Matt Hilbrecht served a Bench Warrant on Marshall L. Dowdy of Paducah. for Failure to Appear in Lyon District Court.

On July 20th at 12:11pm, Deputy Steven Oakley served an Indictment Warrant to Allan Michael Fisher of Paducah. The warrant charges Fisher with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense Methamphetamine, Drug Paraphernalia Buy / Possess, and Possession of Marijuana.

On July 22 at 10:21pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield, Sergeant Tim Reynolds, and Deputy Josh Anderson responded to a a disturbance on Holland Road. As a result of this response and a second response to the same location, Shanrah Dawn Evans of Benton was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication – Controlled Substance Excludes Alcohol and Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree.

On July 22nd at 4:28 Pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield responded to Mayfield Hwy in reference to a narcotics investigation. As a result of the investigation, Franklin Reid Finley of Kirksey, KY was arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense Methamphetamine and Drug Paraphernalia Buy / Possess.

On July 22 at 1:23pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield served a warrant on a Kentucky State Police case wherein James R. Borders of Hardin was charged with Assault 4th Degree

Thomas A. Hauenstein, 38, of 103 Blades Lane, Gilbertsville was arrested on July 17, 2018 for alcohol intoxication in a public place. He was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

James R. Oliver, 43, of 1125 Village Road, #122, Benton was arrested on July 20, 2018 for criminal possession of a forged instrument 2nd degree.

The Murray Police Department needs any assistance in locating Michael Eaves who has been reported missing by his family.

Eaves was last seen on Sunday, July 22nd, at approximately 7:36am. He was seen leaving from Murray State University driving a white 1995 Chevrolet Beretta with KY license plate 715-GPD.

Michael Eaves is 63 years old, approximately 6’00”, and weighs 160lbs.

On July 23rd Sergeant Jason Lane served a Graves District Court Bench Warrant on Dustin J. Jenkins of Benton for Failure to Appear.

On July 23rd, Deputy Barry Howell investigated a burglary on Aurora Highway. According to his report, Ronnie M. Shearer of Hardin reported a theft of a large amount of fishing and hunting equipment. On July 24th, Deputy Cory Curtner served an arrest warrant and criminal summons on a Morehead, KY man. Gary Hale of Morehead, KY was served a criminal summons for Theft By Failure to Make Required Disposition of Property over $500 out of Floyd County. He was served an arrest warrant out of Floyd County for Failure to Appear on charges of Failure to Wear Seat belts, No Registration Plates, No Registration Receipt, Reg and Title Requirements Veh Not Oper on Highway, Operating on Suspended or Revoked Operators License, Failure To Register Transfer of Motor Vehicle, and Failure of Owner to Maintain Insurance.

On 07/24/2018 Deputies were dispatched to Hwy 641S and Main St. in Benton Ky. reference injury vehicle accident. Upon arrival , the driver of the first vehicle Cristobal Granados Rodriguez of Lilburn, GA stated he was traveling NB on US Hwy 641. Rodriguez advised as he approached the traffic lights on 641 and Main St. the light turned yellow. Rodriguez advised as he passed through the yellow light a vehicle driven by Corbet J. Hall of Murray drove out in front of him from Main St. Rodriguez advised he tried to swerve to miss Hall but stated he struck Hall in the side of the vehicle. Hall was transported to the Marshall County E.R. to be stabilized so he could be flown out by Air Evac to Vanderbilt in Nashville Tn. Marshall County Hospital called to advise Hall had succumbed to injuries before being air lifted to Vanderbilt.

Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement arrived on scene for vehicle inspection on the Rodriguez vehicle which was a commercial vehicle / truck. . Accident reconstruction by Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstructionist Detective Nathan Maxlow is pending. The crash was investigated by Deputy Barry Howell. Sergeant Tim Reynolds, Sergeant Jason Lane, Deputy Cory Curtner, and Officer Stephen Robinson from Benton Police responded to assist. Marshall County EMS, South Marshall Fire Department, and the Marshall County Coroners Office responded and assisted in the investigation. The investigation is continuing.

On July 24th, Deputy Barry Howell served a warrant for the Marshall Circuit Court on Logan T. Hodge of Benton. The warrant was for Probation Violation ( for technical violation ),

On Wednesday 7/25/2018 around 1:50 A.M. Officer Steve Robinson responded to the area of the COOP for a collision. After his investigation, Officer Robinson determined that Mrs. Shanrah Evans was under the influence from huffing and also prescription medication. She was arrested for DUI 2nd Offense and lodged into the Marshall County jail. Sgt. Tim Reynolds from Marshall County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

KSP Seeking Public’s Help in Finding Wanted Man

Hickory, KY (July 25, 2018) – The Kentucky State Police Post 1 is seeking the public’s help in finding Jonathan D. Mahan, 35 of Melber, KY. Mr. Mahan is described as a white male, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 175 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.

Mr. Mahan is wanted by the Kentucky State Police for 10 counts of Criminal Abuse 1st Degree child under 12 years of age, Assaulting a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, 4th degree Domestic Assault and other charges out of Graves County. He was indicted by a Graves County Grand Jury in 2017 on those charges. Mr. Mahan failed to show up for his court appearance on January 8, 2018.

On February 2nd, 2018, Mr. Mahan was reported missing by his sister. According to her, he was last heard from on or about January 28th 2018. His vehicles were located at his home, but he has been known to hitchhike. KSP has searched the post 1 area for him along with KSP Post 10, and 11 where KSP had received tips of his whereabouts, but he was not located.

KSP Post 1 is continuing to search for Mr. Mahan who is entered NCIC as a wanted person. Dr. Roach was served a criminal summons for the two charges by Paducah Police Department on Thursday July 26, 2018. He was cited into court on August 23, 2018.

On Friday July 27, Captain Stephen Sanderson responded to Walmart in reference to a female passed out in the bathroom. After a brief investigation, Captain Sanderson arrested Shanrah Evans, 47, of Benton. Evans was charged with Public Intoxication and also Theft By Unlawful Taking (shoplifting). Evans was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center. Captain Sanderson was assisted on scene by Officer Caleb Curtner.

On 07/27/2018 at approx. 10:15 PM, Officer Ryan Moore responded to the basketball court at H.H. Lovett Park, in reference to individuals standing on top of the basketball goals. As as result of the investigation, drugs were found. Jordan E. Tripp, 21, of Benton, was charged with Possession of Marijuana. A juvenile was also charged with Possession of Marijuana. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

On 07/27/2018, Officer Ryan Moore received information about a violation of a emergency protection order. As a result of the investigation, Shanrah D. Evans, 48, of Benton, was charged with Violation of a KY EPO/DVO. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

KSP Post 1 says Goodbye to Two Employee’s

Hickory, KY (July 30, 2018) The Kentucky State Police Post 1 recently honored two employees as they prepare to retire July 31, 2018.  Master Trooper Chris Smith, and Telecommunicator Marie Hart.

Master Trooper Smith began his career with the Kentucky State Police in June 2000.  After graduating from the Kentucky State Police Academy in November 2000, he was assigned to the Mayfield Post.     Master Trooper Smith received the Commissioner’s Commendation from the State Police Commissioner, during his career.   Prior to joining the Kentucky State Police, Master Trooper Smith served four years in the Marine Corps, as a Military Police Officer, leaving the service as a Sergeant.

Telecommunicator Marie Hart began her career with the Kentucky State Police in May 1995 and was assigned to the Mayfield Post.  Hart received the Telecommunicator of the year award for Post 1 in 1997, and received the Civilian Employee of the Year for the state in 2000.
