On January 27th at approximately 6:41pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to Dogtown Road in reference to a vehicle off the roadway and in the water. Upon arrival, Deputy Greenfield found the partially submerged vehicle and a small child clinging to the hood area.. There was an adult male standing in the open trunk of the vehicle. The child was treated by Marshall County EMS as was the adult. As a result of the ensuing investigation, the adult driver, identified as Lance Wagers age 34 of Benton was arrested and charged with the following:
1 – Operating Motor Vehicle U/ Influence ALC / Drugs / etc. Agg Circumstances – 1st offense
2 – Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
3 – Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd Degree ( 2 Cts )
4 – Illegal Possession of Legend Drug ( 2 Cts )
5 – Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon
6 – Possession of Marijuana
7 – Drug Paraphernalia – Buy / Poss
During the investigation, Deputies seized marijuana, various pills and prescription medications in bottles prescribed to others, and items of paraphernalia. Deputy Luke Rudd seized a handgun from the vehicle. Deputy Greenfield was assisted by Deputy Luke Rudd and Officers Nick Spears and Ryan Moore of the Benton Police Department. Also assisting with this crash was Marshall County EMS, Marshall County Rescue Squad, and Benton Fire Department.
On January 28th at approximately 8:48pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to Walker Harris Lane in reference to a house fire with a possible victim. Investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown had entered the home, assaulted the homeowner, and started a fire. Deputy Greenfield contacted Detective Captain Matt Hilbrecht who responded and coordinated the investigation.
The homeowner, Edward Harris age 63 of Calvert City, was treated by Marshall County EMS before being flown by Air Evac for treatment.
Assisting with the scene or investigation included Deputy Luke Rudd, Deputy Josh Anderson, Sergeant Jason Lane, Marshall County EMS, Calvert City Fire Department, Captain Robert West – Calvert City PD, Possum Trot Sharpe Fire Department, and Air Evac.
The investigation is continuing by Detective Captain Matt Hilbrecht.
On the night of January 29th, Deputy Josh Anderson was dispatched to a disturbance of a Draffenville Restaurant. Upon arrival at the scene, Deputies spoke to the two persons in the disturbance. One of the individuals was found to be in possession of illegal items. Steven R. Klepfer age 21 of Benton was arrested and charged with the following:
Carrying a Concealed Weapon
Possession of Marijuana
Drug Paraphernalia – Buy / Possess
Deputies found several knives, a.45 caliber handgun, a marijuana pipe, and a bag of marijuana. Investigation revealed that Klepfer did not have a concealed carry permit.
